Research Project No.1 - Screening of Germplasm collections for Tolerance to insect pests, diseases and for other desirable traits


A total of 600 germplasm collections (G.hirsutum, G.barbadense, G.arboreum and G.herbaceum) are being maintained Out of them, 35 types having good productivity, earliness and tolerance to sucking pests, particularly, melay bug were selected. Promising genotypes will be utilized in the breeding programme.



Research Project No.2 - Mass Pedigree maintenance of Promising Lines and Varieties


Ten mass pedigree lines (MCU-5, MCU-5VT, MCU-7, LRA-5166, Surabhi, Supriya, Suraj, SVPR 2, SVPR 3 and SVPR 4) were maintained for future utilization and seed multiplication purposes.



Research Project No.3 – Renovation of MCU-5


SIMA MCU-5 seeds were distributed to the farmers in Konganapuram, Kumbakonam, Udumalpet, Theni and Rajapayalam areas in the name of MCU-5. M-9 progeny was selected and raised during 2020-21 for yield trial. Fibre properties of the progeny are :

Research Project No.7 – Synthesis of New Hybrid Combinations


Six lines and 6 testers of intra-hirsutum and 5 lines ad 2 testers of barbadense were raised for synthesis of new intra-hirsutum and inter-specific hybrid combinations during 2020-21 winter season.


Research Project No.8 – Evolution of New ELS Cultures (Intra-hirsutum)


Performance of eleven new ELS cultures with check variety SIMA-5 and Surabhi are being studied.


Research Project No.9 – Evolution of Long and Medium Culture


Performance of nine new Long and Medium cultures with check variety Supriya and Suraj are being studied.


Research Project No.10 – Breeding Lines of Long and Medium Progenies


21 Breeding lines of Long and Medium Staple Progenies were raised and their yield and G.P are recorded for selection and further studies


Research Project No.11 – Breeding Lines of Long Staple Progenies


21 Breeding lines of Long Staple Progenies were raised and their yield and G.P are recorded for selection and further studies..


Research Project No.12 – Breeding Lines of High Ginning Outturn


139 breeding lines with high ginning outturn were raised and their yield and G.P are recorded for selection and further studies.


Research Project No.13 – Breeding Lines of G.barbadense


Twelve G,barbadense breeding lines were raised and their yield and G.P are recorded for selection and further studies.


Research Project No.14 – Breeding Lines of Short Staple Progenies


Five breeding lines of Short Staple progenies were raised and their yield and G.P are recorded for selection and further studies.


  • Apart from evolving high yielding varieties / hybrids through Research & Development, the Association is promoting Organic Cotton Cultivation with tie-up from member mills.

  • Colour cotton project is under progress.

  • Efforts are underway to become an Implementing Partner of BCI
