SIMA Cotton Development & Research Association was registered under Societies' Registration Act XXI of 1860 on 4th day of November 1974 and was assigned S.No.100 of 1974.


Signatories to the Memorandum and Rules and Regulations of the Association are Sri K Venkatesalu, Managing Director, DPF Textiles Private Limited, Coimbatore as Chairman and Sri K Rajagopal, Managing Director, Lakshmi Mills Company Limited, Coimbatore and Mr M B S Henry, Managing Director, Madura Mills Company Limited, Madurai as Vice-Chairmen.


SIMA CD & RA has been recognized as a SIRO (Scientific and Industrial Research Organization) by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, New Delhi.



The main objectives of the Association are:



  • To promote the development of cotton farming in enhancing cotton production, productivity and quality and to make available raw cotton at reasonable prices to the Textile mills.
  • To supplement the efforts of the State and Central Governments and other agencies.
  • To undertake cotton research through CDRA’s sponsored programme in well established research institutions or by CDRA’s own project for developing high yielding cotton varieties and hybrids.
  • Activities for imparting technical know-how on improved modern technology for cotton cultivation.


Research Farm



Situated at Ponneri, Udumalpet Taluk, 60 kms away from Coimbatore and the total area covered at Ponneri is around 15.36 acres (Farm – 11.06 acres : Factory and staff quarters = 4.30 acres)
